Features of the Respironics Wee Thumbie Preemie Pacifier: Newly Designed Preemie Pacifier For Babies <30 Weeks Gestation The Wee Thumbie, for hospital use only, is the first pacifier designed specifically for use by very low birth weight babies. Modeled after the size and shape of the preemie thumb, this pacifier facilitates the important sucking behaviors normally learned in utero. Its uniquely-shaped nipple helps to keep the pacifier in the baby&rsquos mouth and its smaller-sized perioral guard keeps the pacifier centered and allows space for oral and nasal tubing. Combined with Sweet-Ease Natural (RES-99044), the original preservative-free 24% sucrose solution packaged in translucent, spill-resistant cups, these pacifiers help calm and soothe distressed babies. Once the baby is breast or bottle feeding, he or she should transition to the Wee Soothie or Soothie pacifier.
